About Huntdown

Huntdown drops you into a neon-soaked, retro-futuristic city where gangs run the show and the police are helpless. Easy Trigger Games developed this title while Coffee Stain Studios handled publishing back in May 2020. You play as one of three distinct bounty hunters tasked with taking down gang leaders across the map. The game launched on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, Linux, Mac, and even mobile devices for Android and iOS. It mixes arcade shooter action with side-scrolling platforming mechanics to create a fast-paced experience that feels like a lost 90s coin-op cabinet brought to life in high definition.

Gameplay

You sprint through levels filled with cover points and environmental hazards while bullets whip past your character. The core loop involves running, jumping, and taking shelter behind destructible objects that shatter under heavy fire. You switch between a variety of guns to handle different enemy types before targeting the boss at the end of each stage. Split-screen co-op lets two players tackle the campaign together on the same screen, while online multiplayer offers competitive matches. The controls feel tight for precise movement during intense firefights. Explosions send debris flying everywhere as you clear out minions and hunt down high-value targets to collect your reward money.

What Players Think

Critics and players have been very kind to Huntdown, with Metacritic sitting at a solid 85 out of 100. PlayPile data shows an average unlock rate of just 14.7% across its 19 achievements, indicating a high skill ceiling. The rarest badge is Assassin, unlocked by only 0.80% of players who managed to beat the game without getting caught or using specific strategies. Community moods lean heavily toward satisfaction and challenge as users praise the tight controls and visual style. Review snippets frequently mention the difficulty spike in later levels and the sheer fun of the split-screen mode. Most players stick around for multiple playthroughs to unlock every weapon and complete the harder challenges.

PlayPile's Take

Huntdown is a solid pick if you want arcade action without breaking the bank. The price often drops to $3.99 on GOG, making it a steal for the amount of content included. You get 19 achievements to chase, though most will feel out of reach until you master the movement and gunplay. This game suits people who enjoy high-difficulty platformers and local co-op sessions with friends. It does not hold your hand or explain mechanics gently, so expect to fail often while learning enemy patterns. Skip this if you want a relaxing walk through the park. Grab it on sale and test your reflexes in this hard-boiled shooter.

Storyline

In the future, the police have lost control to the mighty gangs who now rule the streets. Where crime is king, the authorities put their trust in hired guns to solve the problem. A price is set on the gang leaders´ heads. It´s time for the Bounty Hunters — It´s time to hunt ´em down.
