Hyper Dyne: Side Arms is a fast-paced twin-stick shooter that flips the formula by letting you fire forward and backward simultaneously. You control a ship that can rotate 180 degrees to defend against rear attacks while advancing through waves of enemies. Power-ups let you choose from different abilities, and collecting a special alpha symbol triggers a co-op combo where two ships merge into a temporary super robot with enhanced firepower. The game stands out for its dual-direction combat and the co-op transformation mechanic, which foreshadowed similar features in later Capcom titles. Released in 1986, it ran on home computers and arcade cabinets, making co-op play accessible long before it became standard. Though often overlooked, its influence can be traced in the team-based robot battles of later shooters.
