About

Hypergun casts you as Dewey Owens, an intern who hijacks a secret lab’s simulation to build a weapon against alien invaders. Each run lets you mix and match gun parts to craft tools of questionable sanity, imagine a flamethrower attached to a sniper rifle. The action unfolds in wave-based firefights where you’ll tweak your loadout between battles, balancing raw power with mobility. Progress depends on scavenging blueprints and brute-forcing your way through increasingly chaotic enemy hordes. The game’s charm lies in its absurd weapon combos and snappy pacing. Procedural generation keeps runs fresh, though some players note repetition in later stages. With a Metacritic score of 67, it’s a brisk, if occasionally shallow, shooter that leans into its goofy premise. The retro-futuristic aesthetic and Dewey’s deadpan narration add character, even if the story takes a backseat to the gunplay. Released in 2018, it remains a niche pick for those craving quick bursts of chaotic shooting.

Storyline

"The year is 2038, and a highly advanced alien race has occupied planet Earth. Humanity is at its breaking point, and the fate of the human race now depends on the top-secret HYPERGUN program: a highly advanced simulation that is designed to create the ultimate weapon to combat the alien oppressors by combining weapon components across countless simulations. The intern at DevTech Labs, Dewey Owens, has managed to sneak into the facility over the weekend (even at the end of the world, we still need weekends!). Is he trying to prove himself to Roger, the hard-nosed CEO, or is he up to something nefarious? We may never know, but he just might save the world along the way."
