Icarus.1 casts you as a scavenger navigating a derelict space station frozen in time. Your mission is to extract valuable resources while figuring out why the crew vanished. The gameplay blends methodical exploration with environmental puzzles, requiring you to repair systems, bypass security, and piece together fragmented logs. The station’s layout is claustrophobic and linear, but every corridor feels like a tomb, hinting at a corporate disaster buried under layers of red tape. The game’s strength lies in its eerie atmosphere and minimalist storytelling. Sparse audio logs and decaying infrastructure suggest a cover-up more than a simple accident, leaving you to fill gaps with speculation. While short, most playthroughs last under two hours, it lingers longer than its runtime. A modest but tightly crafted experience with a 72% critic score on aggregated sites, Icarus.1 works best for players who enjoy piecing together mysteries in quiet, oppressive settings.
Abandoned for decades, crew MIA, the ICARUS.1's job was to store mined minerals from the systems outlying planets and perform research duties. Orbiting the local sun to maintain it's solar energy and live up to its namesake, it provided a lucrative business for JME corp. After contact was lost no rescue attempt was ever made with the stricken station, instead the project was mothballed along with its precious cargo - a cover up some may say. Many stories about what happened have become lore but Sam isn't focusing on these 'stories', the goal is the cargo and the wealth it will bring.
