About

Ice Hunter tasks you with guiding Thorak through a multi-level cave to collect blocks needed for building an igloo. Each level requires navigating gaps by removing platforms to drop blocks below while avoiding deadly creatures. You can kill enemies by dropping blocks on them or letting them fall through holes. A power-up temporarily stuns foes, letting you eliminate them on contact. The catch is you need two blocks to float down a stream to the next area, and once you pass a certain point, there’s no going back. Precision platforming and timing are key as you balance block collection with survival. Released in late 1984 for Commodore 64 and similar systems, Ice Hunter stands out for its clever use of environmental puzzles in a single-screen format. The scrolling levels that shift left and reappear on the right add a subtle challenge without breaking the platforming flow. With four lives and a focus on resource management, it’s a brisk but tricky test of reflexes. Its simple visuals and tight mechanics keep it memorable, especially for fans of 8-bit platformers that demand both skill and strategy.
