Incoming: The Final Conflict drops you into a 2009 where Earth’s under siege by extraterrestrial forces. As a military commander you manage a squad of vehicles and stationary defenses to repel waves of alien ships while coordinating attacks in real time. The blend of fast paced shooting and tactical base building lets you switch between piloting tanks and directing artillery from a top down perspective. Though it never became a mainstream hit the game earned a cult following for its chaotic mix of genres and accessibility. Its 1998 release on PC Mac and arcade cabinets offered one of the earliest attempts to merge shooter reflexes with RTS strategy. Players still praise the tight controls and escalating difficulty but note the dated graphics and limited mission variety compared to later titles in the genre.
