In Indian Battle you play as a cowboy facing off against groups of Native American warriors. You can shoot arrows and tomahawks to take out foot soldiers riders and flying buzzards but some enemies like scorpions can’t be targeted directly. Terrain elements like cacti and boulders block your line of fire forcing you to navigate tight spaces carefully. Each hit from an enemy or their projectiles costs a life and you must eliminate set numbers of foes to unlock new stages. The controls feel tight for an early 80s arcade title but the limited movement options and sudden enemy ambushes make it tough to master. The game’s reputation has shifted over time with modern players noting its dated themes and repetitive wave design. Still it holds up as a technically competent early example of the shooter genre with a 3.5 out of 5 average from retro gaming communities. The challenge comes from memorizing enemy patterns and positioning rather than complex mechanics. While not as fondly remembered as Taito’s later titles Indian Battle remains a brisk if straightforward test of reflexes.
