About Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

LucasArts dropped Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis in June 1992 using their SCUMM script engine. You play Indy across PC, Mac, Linux, Amiga, and DOS systems to hunt the sunken city of Atlantis. Sophia Hapgood joins him as a psychic partner while Nazi forces try to steal Atlantis power for war. The game arrived as a standard floppy version before getting a CD-ROM "talkie" edition with voice acting in 1993. It stands as the seventh title in the series to use this specific engine and remains one of the most ambitious entries ever made by the studio.

Gameplay

You control Indy by clicking on objects or people while selecting verbs from a command bar at the bottom of the screen. The interface lets you type commands or pick options from a menu to talk, take items, or use tools on specific targets. A major twist involves choosing one of three distinct paths early on: Atlantis, Witch's House, or Temple of the Sun. Each path changes the puzzles you face and the story beats you unlock. Sessions last hours as you solve logic problems involving ancient artifacts while avoiding traps set by enemies. You manage inventory slots carefully since carrying too many items slows your movement through dense environments.

What Players Think

IGDB lists this title at 89.9 out of 100 based on 408 ratings from players who have finished it. The PlayPile community describes the vibe as mind-bending with four votes and atmospheric with three votes. Story-driven remains a key mood for three users while casual fans also rated it highly. People spend an average of forty hours exploring every room before finding all secrets. Review snippets often mention the branching paths as the main reason for high completion rates among adventure veterans. No other site tracks these specific mood tags or completion percentages for this 1992 classic.

PlayPile's Take

This game costs a few dollars on Steam and offers over forty hours of content plus three different endings. You earn achievements by finding every hidden object in the Witch's House or Temple of the Sun paths. It works best for people who enjoy logic puzzles without hand-holding tutorials. The voice acting adds weight to conversations that might feel stiff otherwise. Skip this if you want fast action since combat is rare and mostly happens through quick-time events. Finish one path then replay immediately to see how the story changes with your choices.

Storyline

The plot is set in the fictional Indiana Jones universe and revolves around the eponymous protagonist's global search for the legendary sunken city of Atlantis. Sophia Hapgood, an old co-worker of Indiana Jones who gave up her archaeological career to become a psychic, supports him along the journey. The two partners are pursued by the Nazis who seek to use the power of Atlantis for warfare, and serve as the adventure's antagonists.
