Inside a Star-filled Sky is a tactical shooter where every object hides another world inside it. You pilot a ship through procedurally generated levels, zapping enemies and collecting upgrades. The twist is you can enter any object, enemies, power-ups, even your own ship, to find smaller levels within. Each nested stage lets you modify the thing you just entered, changing stats or abilities before returning to the larger scale. The game loops inward and outward infinitely, with challenges escalating as you dive deeper or ascend back up. This minimalist game by Jason Rohrer (Passage) leans into clever design over spectacle. Its recursive structure creates a puzzle-box feel, rewarding players who experiment with its nested systems. With a 73% critic score on Metacritic and a runtime averaging 2-4 hours, it’s a bite-sized but intense experience. The difficulty spikes sharply, and there’s no save system, but the procedural generation keeps each run fresh. Players praise its originality but warn it’s not for casual shooters, this is a brain-burning exercise in cause and effect.
