Inspector Waffles Early Days is a point-and-click puzzle adventure set in a retro-style world inspired by old handheld gaming. You play as a young cat detective trying to earn respect at a chaotic police station while solving cases with your no-nonsense feline partner. The game uses a top-down perspective and leans into classic inventory-based problem solving with dialogue choices that shape your reputation. Cases involve tracking down missing items, interrogating suspects, and uncovering secrets in a small town full of quirky animal characters. The standout here is the intentionally campy humor and the way it nods to 90s-era game design without feeling outdated. With release planned for multiple platforms including Game Boy Color and the niche Playdate handheld, it’s clear the developers want to make this accessible to retro fans. Early builds show puzzle design that balances simplicity with clever twists, and the antagonists feel like a proper threat without derailing the lighthearted tone. The cat-based police force premise might sound silly but works surprisingly well as a framework for the story.
This time, follow a younger Waffles, a cunning and witty cat, in his first days as an Inspector who wants to prove to everyone that he is more than just a rookie. Your partner, Pancakes, is an experienced Inspector and probably the only one at the police station that isn’t an incompetent policecat. With this top-tier team, catching bad guys could sound easy, but beware… Your future worst enemy is hiding in the shadows, waiting for you to make the first mistake.
