Intruder is a 1979 arcade shooter where two players pilot ships at opposite screen edges, battling to destroy each other. A constant flow of neutral space traffic blocks direct fire, forcing you to time shots between passing vehicles. Your ship’s fuel meter doubles as a laser counter, let it build to around 75 to fire a cross-screen shot, but each blast drains fuel, leaving you vulnerable until it recharges. The tug-of-war between offense and survival creates tense, rhythmic combat that rewards patience and timing. As Konami’s first original video game design, Intruder shows early experimentation with resource management in shooters. It hit arcades under three different titles: Space War in Japan, Space Laser in Europe, and Intruder in North America. The simple mechanics hold up for quick, competitive matches, with the traffic patterns and fuel system adding layers of strategy to pixel-perfect duels.
