Jet Set Willy casts you as a post-party Willy tasked with tidying his large mansion to finally catch some Zs. Navigate interconnected rooms and outdoor areas by moving left, right, or up/down to flip screens, collecting every item scattered around. The mansion’s layout is complex, with hidden passages and secret rooms that require precise jumping and timing to access. Power-ups and tools like ladders appear mid-game but aren’t always reliable, expect to replay sections often. The game’s challenge lies in its sheer scale and tricky navigation. Fans often cite the massive interconnected map as a standout feature, with some areas requiring specific items to unlock. While the C64 and Spectrum versions are most common, the game’s design influenced later adventure games with its open-ended structure. Early completion times averaged over 20 hours, and modern speedrun records hover just under 45 minutes thanks to optimized routes.
A tired Miner Willy has to tidy up all the items left around his house after a huge party. With this done, his housekeeper Maria will let him go to bed. Willy's mansion was bought with the wealth obtained from his adventures in Manic Miner, but much of it remains unexplored and it appears to be full of strange creatures, possibly a result of the previous (missing) owner's experiments. Willy must explore the enormous mansion and its grounds (including a beach and a yacht) to fully tidy up the house so he can get some much-needed sleep.
