In Julian & Friends, you follow a group of oddball characters through a series of surreal and often unsettling situations. The gameplay revolves around point-and-click exploration, where dialogue choices and item interactions shape a narrative filled with dark humor and cryptic twists. The tone shifts unpredictably between absurd comedy and lingering dread, keeping the story from feeling entirely grounded. Simple puzzles and environmental storytelling tie together fragmented scenes that feel less like a cohesive plot and more like a shared fever dream. The game’s standout trait is its unapologetic retro vibe. It channels the aesthetic and pacing of early 2000s PC games, with blocky pixel art and deliberately awkward animations adding to the charm. References to the 98xx universe appear throughout, offering familiar faces for fans but never feeling forced. Though brief, the experience leans into its quirks, strange character behavior and tonal whiplash, to create something memorable, even if it never fully explains itself.
