You play a fourth-grader who skips school on the day a witch substitutes, only to get sucked into a spooky island where your classmates are trapped. Using a bat named Flap and a fortune teller, you solve puzzles tied to math, reading, and science to collect each kid's lost item. Each puzzle unlocks a personality trait, leading to a poem that turns the monster into a student. The game mixes point-and-click exploration with grade-level lessons, all wrapped in a silly supernatural mystery. Released in 1996, this DOS and Mac title predates the series' later entries but holds up as a quirky early edutainment title. The bonus disc in original copies added extra mini-games, and a 1997 update tweaked level markers. While newer JumpStart games shifted settings, this one remains a cult favorite for its offbeat charm. Small communities still trade strategies for the Ms. Grunkle boss fight, and the pixel-art ghosts haven’t aged too badly.
The user is a fourth-grade student, who, fortunately, missed the day of school when the class's substitute teacher was a witch named Ms. Grunkle. After signing in at the schoolhouse, the user is transported to Haunted Island. With the aid of a large purple bat named Flap and a fortune teller named Madame Pomreeda, the user must rescue the thirteen lost classmates by collecting the students' "most prized possessions" from the island's educational activities. After these possessions, which reveal elements of the kid's personality, are collected, Madame Pomreeda transforms the classmate back with a poem that tells the monster to go away and the child to return.
