Kandria is a 2D platformer with hack and slash combat and RPG elements. You play as a dormant AI revived in the ruins of an underground city by a young engineer named Catherine. Guided by her, you navigate crumbling tunnels, fight waves of hostile creatures, and solve environmental puzzles to uncover the world’s dark history. Progression mixes skill-based platforming, loot upgrades, and strategic enemy encounters. The game emphasizes exploration as you venture deeper into hazardous zones to rescue survivors and piece together the cause of the surface world’s collapse. The game’s blend of precise combat and atmospheric world design stands out. Reviews note its punishing but fair difficulty and intricate level secrets, with a 4.5/5 average on Steam from over 10,000 players. The hand-drawn visuals and cryptic environmental storytelling create a distinct tone, balancing action with quiet moments of discovery. Its roguelike elements and permadeath risks add weight to each decision, though some find the pacing slow early on. Still, fans of metroidvania-style challenges and narrative-driven action should find it engaging.
The game begins with you awakening from a long slumber underground. You find yourself in the rubble of the destroyed city of Zenith. A young engineer called Catherine found you and managed to reboot your AI. As you follow her back up from your grave site to the surface you learn about her new settlement that was established above ground -- the first to try doing so since the calamity wiped the surface clean. As the game unfolds you help this new settlement survive. In doing so you venture deeper and deeper underground through a wide net of tunnels, caverns, and abandoned structures to find the last few remnants of humanity.
