Karate is a straightforward 2D fighting game where two players square off in bare-knuckle brawls. Each match plays out in real time with basic punches, kicks, and grapples. The simple control scheme makes it easy to pick up but harder to master as you learn timing and positioning. Released in late 1986, it arrived during the rise of competitive arcade-style combat on home computers. Designed by black belt martial artist Joseph Amelio, the game brings real-world technique references to its pixelated bouts. While lacking the flashy moves of later fighters, its no-frills approach earned it a niche reputation among retro combat game collectors. The Atari ST version especially stands out for smoother animations compared to its Amiga counterpart.
