Karateka is a side-scrolling beat 'em up from 1984 where you play as a silent hero storming a fortress to save a captured princess. The gameplay blends platforming and hand to hand combat as you punch and kick through waves of goons. With no saves or checkpoints you’ll likely die a lot and restart often. It’s tough but the smooth animations and simple mechanics keep it engaging. For its time Karateka stood out with fluid movie like character movements that felt surprisingly real. Jordan Mechner’s work here set the stage for future hits like Prince of Persia. A modern HD remake brought the game to consoles and PC preserving its challenge while tweaking visuals. Classic arcade charm with a legacy that still holds up.
