About Karigurashi Renai: Living on Borrowed Love

ASa Project returns with Karigurashi Renai: Living on Borrowed Love, a full HD remaster of their classic visual novel. This single-player adventure launched on PC in March 2026. The story follows Takuma Setoda, who moves back to his childhood hometown to live independently. His old house has fallen into total ruin, leaving him homeless and broke. He must rely on his former classmates for a place to stay while he finishes school. The game blends comedy with emotional moments as he navigates this strange living arrangement. You play through Takuma's perspective as he rotates between different friends' homes. Each location offers a unique setting and new character interactions.

Gameplay

You spend your time making dialogue choices that shape Takuma's relationships and daily routine. The core loop involves selecting where to stay next based on current relationship levels and available funds. You manage simple resources like money while unlocking new story paths through conversation trees. Typical sessions involve reading text-heavy segments followed by quick decision points about who to visit or what topics to discuss. Controls are basic, relying mostly on mouse clicks or keyboard inputs to advance scenes. The remaster updates the visuals but keeps the original pacing intact. You do not fight enemies or solve complex puzzles. Your main job is navigating social dynamics and deciding which friend's house offers the best temporary shelter for your character.

What Players Think

Players on PlayPile have logged this title heavily since release. Average playtime sits at 18 hours, though some completists reach 24 to see all endings. The community rating holds steady at 4.6 out of 5 stars based on over two thousand reviews. Completion rates hit 72 percent, suggesting most people finish the main story. Review snippets highlight the humor and character writing as standout features. Community mood trackers show 85 percent positive sentiment with "heartwarming" and "funny" appearing most often in tags. Only 12 percent of users expressed frustration with the pacing. Achievement data shows a 40 percent unlock rate for the true ending, making it a popular goal for dedicated fans.

PlayPile's Take

This game is worth your time if you like slow-paced stories focused on character growth. The price point is standard for a visual novel remaster. You will earn 25 achievements, but only the true ending requires multiple playthroughs to unlock fully. Do not expect action or complex mechanics here. The story relies heavily on dialogue and relationship management. ASa Project delivers a solid experience that respects its source material while improving the presentation. It suits players who enjoy slice-of-life narratives with a touch of chaos. Skip this one if you want fast-paced gameplay or deep strategic elements.

Storyline

The protagonist, Takuma Setoda, returns to the town where he grew up. He's come back to break away from his dependence on his parents and start living on his own. The town is filled with memories from his childhood. Takuma had always longed to return one day. Finally, he successfully convinced his parents, fulfilling his dream of returning to his hometown (and living alone)! However, when he arrives at the rundown old house where he used to live, ready to start his new life, he discovers that the home from his memories has become so decrepit that it's completely uninhabitable—a total ruin! He needs to find a temporary place to stay to continue his studies... but there's one problem: he's flat broke. With nowhere to turn, Takuma is at a dead end. Just then, a helping hand is extended by none other than his old childhood friends!! It can't be a long-term solution, but it seems their families are willing to let him stay with each of them for a short while, rotating between their homes. Although one of his friends makes her disgust clear and strongly objects, Takuma somehow manages to persuade her. And so begins a strange, bizarre, and unconventional "boarding life."
