This is a quirky physics puzzle adventure released by Bandai Namco on December 6, 2018. MONKEYCRAFT Co. Ltd handled the development for this HD remaster of the classic title available on PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One, Switch, and Stadia. You play as a tiny prince whose dad accidentally knocked all the stars out of the sky while drunk. Your job is to roll a sticky ball around Earth gathering objects to rebuild the heavens. The game looks crisp in full HD compared to the original PS2 version. It brings back that strange Japanese charm with a simple but addictive loop of growing bigger by rolling over smaller things.
You control a small ball using analog sticks to roll over items on the ground. Every object you touch sticks to your surface and increases your size instantly. Early levels force you to pick up pins and clothespins, while later stages let you consume cars, people, and even houses. The physics feel bouncy and wobbly, making tight turns difficult as you get massive. You race against a timer to reach a specific weight goal before the level ends. The controls respond directly to your input without any floaty lag. Split screen multiplayer lets you compete against friends to see who rolls up the most mass. Each stage has a unique environment ranging from city streets to suburban backyards.
Critics and players agree this is a strong port with solid reception across the board. Metacritic holds an 81 out of 100 score while IGDB lists 84.1 based on 94 ratings. The community vibe leans competitive since you are racing against time to hit targets. Players spend an average amount of time mastering the rolling mechanics to complete levels. There are 21 total achievements with a 42.2 percent average unlock rate across the player base. The rarest trophy is King of Katamari Damacy at just 1.50 percent unlock. Many users note the game sells for as low as 5.21 dollars on platforms like GameBillet, making it an easy buy compared to other titles in this price range.
Katamari Damacy Reroll is worth your time if you enjoy chaotic physics games with a short playtime per level. The current price of around 5.21 dollars makes it a no-brainer purchase for fans of the genre. Achievements are challenging to get since the rarest one requires near perfection in specific tasks. You do not need to be a completionist to enjoy the main campaign, but grinding those stars adds value. The game runs smoothly on all current systems without major issues. Skip this if you hate time limits or dislike wobbly movement controls.
In a drunken stupor, an eccentric, god-like entity called the King of All Cosmos destroys all the stars, Earth's Moon and other such celestial bodies in the universe, save for Earth itself. Despite acknowledging his mistake, the King charges his 5-centimeter-tall son, the Prince, to go to Earth with a "katamari"—a magical ball that allows anything smaller than it to stick to it and make it grow—and collect enough material for him to recreate the stars and the Moon. The Prince is successful, and the universe is returned to normal. A side-story follows the Hoshino family as the Prince works at his tasks. The father, an astronaut, is unable to go to the moon after it is wiped out by the King, and the daughter, whose name is Michiru, "senses" the Prince's work—she can feel when each constellation returns to the sky. Ultimately, the family, along with their house and town, are rolled up in the katamari that is used to remake the moon.
