You play as Yoshimori and Tokine, two rivals with the power to summon magical barriers called kekkai. On Nintendo DS, you draw these barriers with the stylus to trap and defeat ayakashi, supernatural creatures threatening a spiritually charged area. The game switches between brawling through hordes of enemies and planning how to use your barriers to bypass puzzles or exploit foes’ weaknesses. Combat feels fast and tactile, relying on timing and positioning as much as creative barrier placement. The stylus-driven mechanics stand out, turning the DS into a tool for direct interaction with the world. While the story follows a familiar anime battle trope, the strategic layer adds depth to the action. Released in 2008, it leverages the DS’s hardware in ways few titles did, blending motion-based moves with tactical thinking. Fans of action games that reward quick reflexes and careful planning might find it memorable.
