In Kiganjo, you play as Hayato, a hero racing to rescue a kidnapped girl by infiltrating the deadly fortress of Kiganjo. The game unfolds through a series of stages filled with ancient traps like hidden doors and falling rocks, which you must navigate and even use to your advantage. Combat uses a turn-based system that lets you string together up to three attacks per turn, balancing strategy and speed as you face off against enemies. The game’s standout feature is its clever integration of environmental puzzles and combat. Traps that initially block your path become tools for defeating foes or bypassing obstacles, adding layers of strategy. While it hasn’t maintained a massive following, its blend of action and puzzle elements has earned a cultish appreciation among retro adventure enthusiasts. Kiganjo’s 1999 release on PlayStation remains its only version, offering a challenge that rewards careful planning over brute force.
