King of Wildlings casts you as Alfie, a fish-scented everyman thrust into a mess he never asked for. Teamed with his pet, Vincenzo, you’ll leap and swing through overgrown ruins, battling squirming monsters and dodging environmental hazards. The goal? Retrieve a glowing crystal stolen by the eponymous king, whose rampage has left a writhing portal in its wake. Platforming mechanics mix precise jumps with swing-based traversal, while scattered secrets hint at the world’s deeper rot. The game’s charm lies in its offhand humor and chunky 2D visuals. Alfie’s deadpan reactions to chaos contrast with the wild, gross-looking creatures blocking his path. Though short, the campaign packs enough quirky set pieces to stick around, and the hand-drawn environments feel alive with texture. Released in 2017, it maintains a cult following for its scrappy personality and the absurdity of a guy in a fishing vest fighting eldritch overlords.
Life on Alfie's home island was never exactly thrilling. A day always consisted of either fishing or working at the silo, breathing in all kinds of dust and smelling of fish, much to Alfie's discontent. Then one day, the wildlings came and gone, taking with themselves the village's blue crystal. The instant the crystal was taken from the village shrine, a mysterious portal started forming in its place. The villagers don't know what it is exactly, but it looks much too ominous not to worry about it. Now it's up to Alfie and his pet, Vincenzo, to take back the crystal from the King of Wildlings... Since grandpa's back can't handle it.
