About

Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories is a tactical RPG that layers card-based strategy over the series’ usual action. You direct Sora through Castle Oblivion and other Disney-themed worlds, using a deck to summon allies, cast spells, or change battle formations. Each card represents a specific ability or character, demanding careful deck-building for fights. The story follows Sora and friends as they navigate a fractured reality where memories are lost, uncovering clues while battling enemies in hybrid real-time and turn-based combat. The card system defines the gameplay loop, letting players tailor strategies for each encounter. While Japan’s version linked to Kingdom Hearts II’s bonus content, the North American edition removed those ties. Fans note the clever use of cards to influence exploration and combat, though its narrow focus on strategy over open-world adventuring sets it apart from other entries. The game remains a divisive but mechanically tight entry, with a runtime of around 15, 20 hours according to player logs.

Storyline

Sora, Donald, and Goofy walk down a long path that seemingly goes nowhere. They see Pluto and start to follow him. He leads them to a crossroads. While deciding which path to take, a mysterious man in a black cloak approaches Sora and speaks to him, but at that moment his words are incomprehensible. The path becomes one and it leads them to Castle Oblivion. The cloaked man appears as they enter the castle and gives them a card. They use the card to proceed through the castle. The first world they go to is Traverse Town, where they discover that Leon, Aerith, Yuffie, and Cid have forgotten all about them. Strangely, though, they remember Sora, Donald, and Goofy's names, with Yuffie even mentioning that her heart still holds memories of them, even if her head doesn't. After Leon gives Sora a tutorial on fighting and gives Sora a summon card, they leave Traverse Town.
