About Kingdom of Night

Kingdom of Night is a story-driven isometric action RPG set in the 1980s suburbs of Arizona. Developed by Black Seven Studios and published by DANGEN Entertainment, it drops you into Watford, a town under siege by demons after a satanic cult awakens the ancient evil Baphomet. You play as John, a regular guy thrust into a cosmic horror nightmare, navigating a night-by-night race to save friends and stop the apocalypse. The game blends 80s nostalgia with dark fantasy, letting you customize classes, abilities, and tackle interconnected quests. Released on December 2, 2025, it’s available on PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One, and Switch. Think Stranger Things meets Diablo with a slasher flick vibe.

Gameplay

You start by picking a class, Warrior, Mage, or Rogue, each with unique abilities. Combat is real-time but pauses for strategic moments, letting you switch between melee, magic, or stealth to take down demons, cultists, and mutated townsfolk. The isometric camera lets you explore a large map with shops, lairs, and backstories. Sessions often involve fighting through demon-infested buildings, solving side quests (like rescuing high school friends), and scavenging loot to upgrade gear. Multiplayer and co-op modes let you team up to tackle boss fights, but the core experience is solo, with choices affecting dialogue and outcomes. The hour-by-hour timer adds urgency, sleeping resets threats but costs progress.

What Players Think

PlayPile community ratings average 88%, with 78% on Metacritic. Players spend 25 hours on average, 65% finishing the main story. Moods are split: 40% nostalgic for the 80s aesthetic, 35% determined by the challenging boss fights, and 25% curious about side quests. Completion rates for 100% runs? A steep 30%. One user wrote: “The 80s neon and synth tracks make the demons feel even grosser.” Another: “Co-op is chaotic but hilarious, recommended for friends who love dying.” Achievements focus on class mastery (e.g., “Warrior’s Resolve” for solo boss kills) and exploration (e.g., “Cult Survivor” for finding hidden coven letters).

PlayPile's Take

Kingdom of Night is a solid pick for fans of action RPGs who enjoy deep class systems and 80s horror vibes. Its hour-by-hour structure keeps tension high, but the grindy loot system might frustrate casual players. With no price listed yet, it’s unclear if the 25-hour average playtime justifies the cost. The achievements add replay value, especially for completionists. If you want a game that mixes nostalgia, cosmic horror, and co-op shenanigans, this one’s worth your time.
