About King's Bounty: Armored Princess

Katauri Interactive and Focus Multimedia dropped King's Bounty: Armored Princess on November 19, 2009. This title launched on PC and Mac as a single-player adventure that blends role-playing and turn-based strategy. You play as Princess Amelie in Darion, a realm overrun by demons ten years after the previous game. A desperate spell pulls her into Teana to find Sir Bill Gilbert. Instead of the knight, she faces Pangolins and monstrous bosses. The premise offers a fresh twist on the series formula with flight mechanics and a companion dragon that grows from a small pet into a battlefield force. It stands as a distinct chapter in the franchise for those wanting more tactical depth.

Gameplay

Sessions involve moving Amelie across a map to encounter enemies and NPCs. Battles trigger when you engage foes, shifting the view to a grid where you place units and command them. You manage resources like gold and mana while upgrading skills for both the princess and her dragon companion. Early fights rely on basic attacks, but later encounters demand you use flying abilities or summon volcanoes during battle rage. The dragon evolves through the campaign, changing how you approach difficult terrain and stronger bosses. Quests range from hunting magical stones to clearing out demon hordes. Controls feel responsive for a turn-based system, requiring you to plan every move carefully since mistakes cost units.

What Players Think

Critics and players have been kind to this release. Metacritic holds the score at 82 out of 100. PlayPile data shows completion rates hovering around 65 percent for main storylines, with many users spending over 40 hours exploring side content. Community moods lean heavily toward "Satisfied" and "Addicted," reflecting the addictive nature of turn-based tactics. Average playtime sits near 32 hours for a full run. Review snippets frequently mention the dragon companion as a highlight rather than just a gimmick. Users note that the difficulty curve spikes significantly in the late game, which keeps engagement high. The historical low price of $1.20 on GameBillet has made it a frequent recommendation for budget gamers looking for deep strategy without a massive time commitment.

PlayPile's Take

This game works best if you enjoy slow-paced tactical battles over fast action. At a current price near $1.20, it offers exceptional value compared to modern releases. The achievement list is substantial enough to keep you busy after the main story ends. Not everyone will like the grid movement or the turn-based pacing, so test the waters before committing hours. The dragon mechanic adds genuine variety to combat scenarios that standard units lack. Finish your quest for the magical stones if you want the full experience. Do not expect a casual stroll; this title demands attention to detail and resource management throughout its campaign.

Storyline

King's Bounty: Armored Princess begins 10 years after the previous title, with the world of Darion being almost completely overrun by hordes of demons. In a last-ditch effort to obtain assistance for a besieged kingdom, a powerful spell is cast which opens a portal to another world, the world of Teana. Playing as Princess Amelie, the player ventures through this portal in search of the legendary knight Sir Bill Gilbert. Upon arriving in this alternate world, Bill Gilbert is nowhere to be found, but the inhabitants provide a number of their own quests, including a search for eight magical stones with the powers of the gods.
