King's Field: Additional I is a tactical RPG built around methodical combat and exploration. You play as John Alfred navigating a crumbling kingdom plagued by dark magic. Battles unfold on grid-based maps where positioning and class roles determine success. The story follows John's descent into a cursed cemetery to find his missing father, blending narrative depth with resource management. This title stands out for its punishing difficulty and layered strategy. Community forums highlight its reputation as a hardcore entry in FromSoftware's early catalog, with many praising its tight mechanics despite a niche audience. Longtime fans often cite its atmospheric world and punishing enemy designs as defining traits. While its 2006 release date and PSP platform limit modern accessibility, it remains a touchstone for tactical RPG purists.
The new story takes place in the world after King's Field 1, 2 and 3. The country of Verdite has descended into decay. Its royal family began practicing dark magic, guided by evil forces lurking beneath the surface of the country. A remote descendant of the cursed bloodline, Zoela Reinhardt, married the captain of the king's guards, Houser Forester. This valiant man went off to fight horrifying creatures that appeared within the Royal Cemetery. He has not returned, and neither did anyone who accompanied him. His son, John Alfred, ventured into the depths of the cemetery, determined to find out what has happened and whether there was still a chance to rescue his father.
