King's Quest: Chapter 2 - A Rubble Without a Cause is a point-and-click adventure where King Graham faces early reign challenges. Goblins have seized control of Daventry, leaving its citizens trapped and the kingdom in chaos. Players guide Graham through puzzle-filled environments, using dialogue and object interactions to outwit enemies and restore order. The tone balances whimsy with tension, as Graham navigates political pressures and personal doubts. Gameplay leans on classic adventure mechanics with a modern sheen, requiring careful observation and creative problem solving to progress. This chapter stands out for its playful writing and character moments. Running gags about goblins hoarding mattresses and Graham’s awkward leadership style add charm, while returning supporting characters like Olfie and Whisper deepen the world. Though the IGDB score of 69.8 suggests mixed reception, fans of the series’ nostalgic revival appreciate the blend of old and new. The puzzles occasionally test patience but rarely feel unfair, and the chapter’s brisk runtime keeps the stakes feeling immediate. It’s a solid middle entry in a larger story, offering enough humor and heart to keep longtime players invested.
In chapter two, Goblins have kidnapped everyone in Daventry, and a newly crowned King Graham must learn to be the leader the kingdom needs. The second chapter will take place five years after the first and will introduce new characters as well as furthering the stories of fan favorites like Olfie, Whisper, Acorn, Amaya the blacksmith, Wente the Baker, and the Hobblepots. Perhaps we will even find out what the goblins are doing with all those stolen mattresses.
