KiwiFlight is a 2D platformer with Metroidvania-style exploration and combat. You play as a small bird with oversized dreams navigating a dark forest filled with environmental hazards and aggressive creatures. The game emphasizes precise jumping and weapon upgrades to access new areas. Combat requires timing and positioning against enemies that range from insects to hulking beasts. The world is interconnected with hidden paths and collectibles encouraging backtracking. The game’s eerie atmosphere mixes Lovecraftian themes with dense foliage and cryptic lore. Developed in under three months by two students using Unity, it shows surprising polish for a student project. While the difficulty spikes occasionally and some mechanics feel unrefined, the dedication to tight platforming and atmospheric design earns praise from indie fans. The soundtrack and art style help sell the moody aesthetic effectively.
