Knights of Valour lets you swing swords, fling axes, and bash skulls in a 2D side-scrolling brawl. The action bounces between close quarters brawls and timed button mashes as you carve through waves of enemies. Each level throws new weapons into the mix from spears to hammers while the backdrop borrows characters and conflicts from an ancient Chinese epic. Combat feels fast and a bit chaotic with simple controls that prioritize button spam over deep combos. The game leans into its source material with names and scenarios lifted from Romance of the Three Kingdoms though the connection is more skin deep than structural. With no multiplayer and a straightforward single-player run it stays focused on raw button-mashing fun. Arcade players in 1999 might have found it refreshingly aggressive but modern players will notice the lack of polish in animations and AI. Still the weapon variety and relentless action keep things engaging for short bursts.
