Knockout Kings 2003 is a boxing game that lets players face real fighters like Muhammad Ali and Oscar De La Hoya in arcade-style matches. Choose between 90-second or three-minute rounds, with Career Mode tracking your path from local gym rat to titleholder. Slugfest Mode emphasizes chaotic knockouts and knockdowns, letting fights go up to seven takedowns per round. The GameCube version adds refined fighter styles like "crab" and "freestyle" that affect movement and punch types. Commentary is more active here than in earlier entries, and training sessions let you customize drills to build strength or speed. The game is the last in the series before EA rebranded it as Fight Night. It keeps core mechanics like unlockable fighters and detailed ring physics but lacks the visual upgrades of later years. Women’s boxing appears in Exhibition Mode, a first for the franchise. While newer Fight Night entries offer smoother controls, 2003’s blend of structured career progression and over-the-top brawls still works for quick fights with nostalgic charm. Some players prefer its direct gameplay over the more realistic later titles.
