Kriss' Journey is a text-driven adventure that leans into the nostalgia of old-school computing. You navigate a science-fantasy world through a terminal window, typing commands to explore environments, interact with characters, and uncover plot details. The game strips away flashy visuals in favor of descriptive prose and player input, echoing the structure of classic interactive fiction. Set in a universe blending futuristic tech with mystical elements, the story unfolds through dialogue and environmental storytelling, requiring you to parse details carefully to progress. What sets it apart is its deliberate simplicity. The lack of graphical polish forces you to focus on narrative and choice, much like early terminal-based games. Developer orlodax adapted their high school novel into this format, giving the project a personal, unpolished charm. While the minimal interface might feel limiting, it also creates an engaging atmosphere for players who enjoy parsing text and reconstructing worlds in their mind. Early access feedback highlights its atmospheric writing and the satisfaction of solving puzzles through precise command syntax.
So I took my old science-fantasy novel, which I wrote when I was in high school (before isekai was mainstream) and started adapting it to be an interactive experience to be run inside a terminal, with a minimal (we may say absent) interface and with a command line to type commands when needed.
