Kyouran Makaism is a 3D action RPG from Nippon Ichi Software, released January 29, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. It follows mercenary Nueur as he helps rebellious overlord Tisiel reclaim a stolen pudding of cosmic importance. The game leans into absurd power scaling, characters can level to 9,999, reincarnate for stat boosts, and dish out billions of damage. Combat revolves around flashy moves triggered by simple controls, with a focus on overwhelming enemies through grind-heavy progression. It’s a chaotic, stats-driven journey through the Netherworld, blending grind-heavy RPG systems with over-the-top action.
Battles feel like a mix of button-mashing and timing flashy combos. You press X or Y to unleash attacks, but chaining skills and upgrading abilities lets you spam hyper-colored finishers. The real grind is in leveling up to 9,999 and reincarnating characters to reset stats at higher caps, each cycle boosts damage output exponentially. Sessions often stretch 45 minutes to an hour, balancing combat with menu-heavy stat juggling. The game rewards obsessive grinding: one player hit a billion damage after 30 reincarnations. Bosses are just bigger versions of enemies, but their sheer numbers and the thrill of seeing stats skyrocket keep the loop addictive.
PlayPile community ratings are split: 68% like it, 32% don’t. Critics gave it a 72/100, praising its “wild escalation of stats” but critiquing repetitive combat. Average playtime is 35 hours, with 42% of players hitting 100+ hours. Moods are 35% Amused, 22% Bored, 18% Frustrated, and 15% Addicted. A user wrote, “It’s like training a pet to do math, slow but satisfying.” Another panned it as “leveling up to forget why I’m there.” There are 87 achievements, 62% completion rate, with top unlocks for hitting 9,999 and “reincarnating” 10 times.
Kyouran Makaism is a love letter to number-crunching RPG fans who thrive on meta-progression. It’s not for casual players, its 87 achievements and 9,999 cap demand commitment. The $59.99 price tag feels steep for its repetitive combat, but if you enjoy turning stats into cosmic numbers, it’s a niche hit. Skip it if you prefer story or varied gameplay. For those who find joy in watching a character go from squishy to unstoppable, this is your pudding.
This is the vast Netherworld, where countless demons vie for supremacy. In one of these many Netherworlds, a veteran mercenary named Nueur is summoned by the Superlative Netherworld overlord Tisiel, who has a shocking request. “Someone ate the pudding from the refrigerator!” “I see… wait, the what from the refrigerator?” The pudding in question is the First Radiance Pudding, created by Tisiel’s now-deceased father, the former Superlative Overlord. It was eaten by a subordinate who staged a rebellion, and Tisiel wants it back. Thus begins the battle to reclaim the First Radiance Pudding, led by a lone mercenary and a fledgling overlord…!
