Labyrinth no Kanata is a first-person dungeon crawler that mixes exploration and real-time combat. You play as part of an online gaming group pulled into a mysterious labyrinth after a strange malfunction. Teamed with a girl trapped in the maze, you navigate procedurally generated floors, fighting monsters and solving environmental puzzles. The 3DS’s 3D effect adds depth to the claustrophobic corridors while weapon upgrades and magic spells let you tailor your playstyle. The game’s strongest hook is its meta-narrative twist, your character’s virtual world overlaps with the labyrinth’s reality. Players appreciate the tight combat loops and how the 3DS hardware enhances the sense of being trapped. Limited to Japan and a single platform, it still earned praise for its clever concept and polished execution. Community reviews highlight the satisfying blend of action and strategy, though the short campaign leaves some wanting more.
The game begins with the player beginning to play an online dungeon-crawling RPG titled "Beyond The Labyrinth". While playing with Pokira, Nerikeshi, and LiLy, the player's group begins to hear a voice calling out for help. Suddenly, the 8-bit game world vanishes behind static, and as a different world appears before them in its place, the players encounter a young girl, the one calling for help before, startling each other. Getting over the shock, the girl explains that she fell into the Labyrinth after leaning too far over the edge; luckily, despite the height she dropped from, she landed on top of a healing point (which acts as a save station in-game), which saved her life. Both the girl and players learn that magic is sealed inside the Labyrinth, and many dangerous creatures who use this power reside here.
