Last Action Hero is a side-scrolling brawler that leans into the over the top action of its big screen namesake. You control a costumed hero who wields guns explosives and sheer rage to mow down hordes of enemies across movie accurate levels. Combat is fast and direct with punchy animations and a roster of unlockable characters. The game's simplicity makes it easy to jump into though the difficulty spikes can catch you off guard. Each version touts slightly different level designs keeping things fresh across platforms. Nostalgia is the main hook here especially for those who remember the 90s movie hype. The game's aesthetic and soundtrack still hit the right notes even if the controls feel a bit dated by today's standards. While the unreleased Sega Master System and CD versions are a footnote the existing ports hold up reasonably well.
