"On the surface, this game has all the ingredients to make a great RPG. The graphics are gorgeous, the soundtrack is infectious, the combat is approachable yet complex, and there’s a ton of replay value. Unfortunately, the disparate pieces don’t hang together quite right. Without a strong central narrative, you’re left bouncing around for the whole playthrough. And without a comprehensive walkthrough, you’ll be doing so for quite a long time. There’s a serious barrier to entry, but I still managed to enjoy myself in spite of all this. If you read all that and still want to dive in, then don’t hesitate to do so. Despite all the strange roadblocks, Legend of Mana has a lot to offer any action RPG fan with a little patience and perseverance."

About

Legend of Mir is a classic PC-based RPG that mixes turn-based combat with character progression and guild-based multiplayer action. Set in a world where monstrous creatures overrun villages and kingdoms, players take on roles like warriors, mages, or archers to clear dungeons, trade items, and battle AI-controlled enemies. The game emphasizes grinding through repetitive quests to boost stats while navigating a large narrative about political betrayal and demonic invasions. Cooperative play is central, with groups required to tackle tougher content as the mobs grow stronger over time. Despite being buried after its 1998 release outside of South Korea and China, the game has developed a cult following through leaked screenshots and word-of-mouth over the years. What sets it apart is its surprisingly layered story about a prince rallying an army against both supernatural threats and corrupt rulers, a detail few ever got to experience firsthand. Longtime fans praise its old-school charm and addictive progression loops, with some community threads calling it one of the earliest examples of modern MMO templates.

Storyline

In the 13th year of the Western Wei Dynasty, as the power of the Demon World gradually grew stronger, monsters with strange shapes called mobs began to appear in various places. In the 25th year of the Western Wei Dynasty, the mobs, which were initially easy to kill with a few people using clubs, gradually grew stronger and attacked villages, causing more and more people to lose their homes and wander. Farmland and tax revenues decreased, and when the mobs appeared in the palace and attacked the empress, the emperor ordered the commander of the imperial guard, General Suyou, to eliminate the mobs. 30 years later, In the second year of the reign of King Yeongwi, even after the first mob eradication, the mobs gradually increased in number in caves and other places, and they began to attack villages again. However, when the old emperor died and a young emperor ascended to the throne, the country became dominated by traitors, and the crown prince Dong So deceived the young emperor and seized power. Dong So did not care about the people's suffering from the mobs, and only focused his efforts on maintaining his own power, strengthening only the imperial guard. At this time, King Sura, who was the lord of a small castle in the province as a member of the royal family, recruited an army with the great monk Dharma and prepared for the second operation to eliminate the mobs.
