About

Liberation is a 1984 arcade shooter that splits its action between two distinct playstyles. In the first half, you pilot a helicopter over open terrain, strafing enemies and scanning forests for hidden villages. The camera moves freely but your fire stays locked forward, making careful navigation key. After landing, you switch to ground vehicles, tanks or jeeps, to rescue prisoners. These sections let you aim and move in any direction, echoing the controls of Jackal. You can swap between vehicles at garages, adjusting tactics to clear each village. The game stands out for its dual-phase design, balancing aerial reconnaissance with ground combat. While the story-driven tag only has one vote, the shift between roles feels more deliberate than in most side-scrollers of the era. The helicopter’s limited firing arc and the tank’s full mobility create a clear contrast that separates it from the wave of run-and-gun shooters from the same year. At just 120 words, it’s a brisk experience with two distinct flavors packed into one arcade cabinet.
