Light Crusader is a 1995 action RPG with puzzle elements from Treasure that mixes real-time combat with 3-D environmental challenges. You play David Lander a warrior investigating vanished townsfolk in the kingdom of Green Row. The game alternates between fast-paced sword fighting against hordes of enemies and navigating maze-like dungeons by solving spatial puzzles. Each level requires both combat skill and logic to progress with enemies respawning if you fail a puzzle forcing you to balance aggression and strategy. The game stands out for blending genres in a way that feels cohesive despite its odd pairing of mechanics. Its 3-D environments were notable for the time offering depth rare in early 90s RPGs. Community reviews often highlight the tension of replaying combat sections after a puzzle mistake though some find the control scheme dated by modern standards. Available on multiple platforms including Linux and Wii it remains a cult curiosity for fans of niche hybrid gameplay.
I am David Lander, swordsman in the service of the great King Frederick of Whitewood. A few days ago, I was sent by my lord to an audience with King Weeden of this land of Green Row. Trembling, King Weeden informed me that his townspeople have been disappearing daily. Neither the astrological charts nor even the king’s own oracle can explain. Green Row has always been a safe and charming land. Not any longer. I must find out what is happening to King Weeden’s people, and return them.
