About

Lightslayer casts you as a dark elven sorceress hunting for a vanished mentor across two fractured worlds. This first-person action RPG tasks you with battling monsters, solving puzzles, and navigating environments ranging from scorched deserts to frozen tundras. Developer Rainer Deyke launched the original in 2000, and this third iteration polishes the core experience for modern systems while keeping the story and gameplay intact. Explore large dungeons, manage spellcasting mechanics, and uncover lore through environmental clues in a single-player adventure that leans into its early-2000s roots. The game runs natively on current PCs with OpenGL rendering, resizable windows, and full mouse controls. While the art remains deliberately rough around the edges, the updated version includes Wrath of Darkness as a bonus title. With no hand-holding and a determinedly old-school approach, Lightslayer appeals to players who enjoy tackling clunky but ambitious design. Its 1.8/5 Metacritic score reflects polarized opinions but highlights a dedicated fanbase that appreciates its relentless, unfiltered charm.

Storyline

For five years you were apprenticed to the sorceress Calesstra when your apprenticeship was cut short. Never will you forget that fateful night, for it changed your life. You were studying a particularily difficult spell when you felt a sudden surge of magical energy. You turned around and a flash of white light blinded you. When your eyes had recovered, Calesstra was gone. You set out to find her, never guessing that your search would take you far beyond your world, through forests and mountains, through deserts of burning sand and deserts of eternal ice, through cities and swamps. Your quest would ultimately determine the fate of two world, for you are the Chosen, you are the Fated, you are the Lightslayer.
