About Liminal Border Part IV

Liminal Border Part IV is a narrative-driven visual novel that wraps up a series about Itsuki, a hustler torn between revenge and redemption. Developed by Purple Software and published by Shiravune, it drops on PC in September 2025. You pick choices that shape Itsuki’s descent into obsession as his underground business booms. The story splits between tense dialogue scenes and brief minigames during action beats, keeping the focus on character drama. Themes of moral ambiguity and loyalty dominate, with multiple endings depending on how you balance Itsuki’s rage against his relationships. Best for fans of slow-burn crime stories with branching consequences.

Gameplay

You spend most of your time reading dense scripts and picking dialogue options that influence Itsuki’s decisions. Key moments, like confrontations with the Mafia boss Luca, force quick-time reactions to avoid violence. The gameplay loop is simple: watch story beats, pick options, and endure occasional tense escape sequences. Sessions average 4-5 hours, with most players hitting the 10-hour mark to unlock secondary paths. Combat is rare but flashy, relying on timed button presses to avoid fatal outcomes. The core appeal lies in the branching dialogue, where small choices, like prioritizing Rin’s warnings over Tatsuya’s anger, reshape the finale.

What Players Think

The game has a 4.1/5 rating on PlayPile, with 82% of players finishing the base story. Average playtime is 11.5 hours, and 68% return for side routes. Community moods lean conflicted: 45% call the ending “satisfying,” while 32% argue it’s “too bleak.” Achievement completion sits at 93%, with 12 optional endings. Positive reviews praise the dialogue (“the best written arc in the series”) and voice acting. Criticism focuses on pacing (“long monologues drag”) and repetitive minigames. 74% of players say the $29.99 price is fair for the story depth.

PlayPile's Take

This is a must-play for series fans and visual novel enthusiasts who want a morally gray narrative. The price is low enough to justify a purchase for the finale alone, especially if you’ve invested in the prior entries. Itski’s arc feels earned, but newcomers may struggle with the setup. The gameplay is light, so expect to spend more time thinking than acting. With 12 endings and strong replay value, it’s worth $30 if you’re into branching crime dramas. Skip if you prefer action over dialogue.

Storyline

Itsuki has his NEST. But what did he gain—and what did he lose—to claim it? With a powerful enemy in Shinonome gone, Itsuki and the gang’s business is thriving. After countless twists and turns, Rave is now a massive success, generating an immense amount of profit and making “NEST” and its operators infamous in the underworld. However, with that success comes a creeping unease and the frustration and pure rage of losing something irreplaceable. Right now, neither Itsuki nor his best friend, Tatsuya Yorozuya, cares for the money and status flowing their way. All they can see is their goal: to take the life of Umon-kai leader Goro Teshigawara. For that, Itsuki would not hesitate to throw away his life. Watching his dangerous resolve with growing concern is Rin Akinashi, his business partner and childhood friend. And looming ever closer is the shadow of Mafia syndicate executive, Luca. Life? Or death? Light? Or shadow? Revenge? Or...? The final curtain rises on this hustler’s waltz. One last dance, precariously, along the boundary between evil and justice...
