Line 88 is a brief visual novel with light exploration and horror themes. Developed by Hatoge, it follows Nao and his classmate Siren after a routine bus ride takes a sinister turn. Lights flicker, passengers vanish, and the two are trapped in an empty vehicle that feels anything but abandoned. The story unfolds through static scenes and sparse dialogue, with occasional moments of movement as the characters search for answers. The whole experience lasts around 20 minutes, building slow tension through atmosphere and implied danger. The game’s strength lies in its eerie mood and twist-heavy conclusion. Line 88 uses minimal text to maximize unease, letting silence and sudden visuals carry the dread. Community reception is mixed but notable, 72% of Steam users recommend it, for its memorably bleak ending and efficient scare tactics. While the gameplay is passive, the setting and pacing create a distinct, unsettling vibe. Short but effective, it’s a quick ride best taken with lights on.
When Nao happens to run into his old classmate Siren during a bus ride, he has a bad intuition. This intuition proofs correctly, when suddenly, all the lights in the bus start flickering and everyone else disappears. Confused, the two young men try to leave the bus, only to realize, that it may not be so easy. And worse; they may not be alone. Will they find a way out before "it" swallows them whole?
