Lock 'n' Chase is a retro maze game where you play a thief sneaking through a vault to collect coins and escape. The challenge comes from four pursuing cops with distinct behaviors, each requiring different tactics to avoid. You can temporarily trap them by closing doors, but only two at a time. The mix of speed and strategy grows as you chase higher scores, balancing coin collection with careful route planning to make it to the exit unharmed. Originally released in 1981 as Data East’s reply to Pac-Man, the game’s simple yet tense format has kept it alive on modern platforms like Android and PlayStation. Its quick, replayable levels and clever door mechanic set it apart from early 80s arcade fare. Though not as iconic as some peers, its reputation as a surprisingly tricky time capsule has earned a cult following among old-school enthusiasts.
The game's main character is a thief. The object of the game is to enter a maze and collect all the coins and, if possible, any other treasure that may appear. The thief must then exit the maze (a vault) without being apprehended by the Super D (policemen). The thief can close doorways within the maze in order to temporarily trap the Super D and allow him to keep his distance from them. Only two doors can be closed at a time. The Super D policemen are named Stiffy, Scaredy, Smarty, and Silly.
