About

Lose/Lose is a minimalist shooter where you pilot a spacecraft in a deadly game of whack-a-mole against digital threats. Inspired by classics like Galaga, the action is simple: fire at waves of aliens zipping across the screen. The twist is each alien represents a file on your computer. Every shot you land permanently deletes a random file. Die, and the game erases itself. There’s no saving your progress or undoing mistakes. It runs on PC and Mac, and plays like a high-stakes screensaver where your own system is the prize. The game’s most striking feature is its ruthless commitment to its premise. Zach Gage designed it as a provocation, blurring the line between gameplay and real-world consequences. Players often describe it as equal parts absurd and unsettling, with a self-destructive charm that feels more performance art than entertainment. While not for the faint of heart, it’s a short, sharp commentary on how casually we treat our digital clutter. Some have called it a “virus with a soul”, and they’re not wrong.
