"Monster Boy is a tremendous accomplishment. It's a gorgeous looking game with a fantastic soundtrack and does its spiritual predecessors proud by nailing the Wonder Boy mechanics while still offering something that will appeal to modern audiences. As long as you can appreciate that it's still very much an old-school game at heart and you're going to get some 8-bit era platforming trickiness as a result, you're going to thoroughly enjoy playing through this adventure for the 12-15 hours it'll take you to beat it. It may not be Wonder Boy by name, but it's definitely wonderful by nature."

Luna & Monsters TD: The Deprived Magical Kingdom tasks you with fending off hordes of creatures while expanding a struggling realm. As a small kingdom’s defender, you build barriers, traps, and spellcasters to block monster waves. Progress relies on balancing resource collection with strategic placement. Each level forces quick decisions about which defenses to upgrade and which threats to prioritize. The trial-and-error approach keeps things fresh as failures often reveal better tactics. The game stands out with its whimsical art style and surprisingly deep mechanics for a short-form strategy title. Luna herself appears as a sly feline companion guiding early moves, though her help fades fast. Monster designs range from goofy to menacing, adding variety to repetitive combat loops. With under 20 hours of content, it’s a lightweight but satisfying challenge that PC and Switch players can pick up in short bursts. The Mac port works smoothly but lacks online features or multiplayer, keeping it firmly in solo-strategist territory.
