Lunacid: Tears of the Moon casts you as Calamis Cerulean, a guardian tasked with staving off an ancient cataclysm. You navigate large underground labyrinths in first-person, scavenging weapons and elemental spells to weaken a slumbering god. Each dungeon demands careful resource management, as you balance light-based magic to purify corrupted areas and shadow magic to exploit enemy weaknesses. The game uses a 2000s-era engine, giving it a deliberately rough-edged aesthetic that leans into its retro charm. What sets it apart is the tight loop of exploration and risk-reward decision making. Players must prioritize which relics to collect and which spells to upgrade, knowing the final confrontation requires synergizing opposing forces. With no hand-holding, the path forward often emerges through trial and error. Early access feedback shows a dedicated niche following, particularly among fans of old-school dungeon crawlers.
The Kingdom of Lyria rests in darkness, surrounded on all sides by the vast poison sea. In ages long past, brilliant silver moonlight fell upon Lyria, leading to its accession as a great kingdom of magic. But this time of solace may soon end. Calamis Cerulean was granted a vision of this macabre future, the Great Old One who sleeps beneath the earth will soon awaken from it's slumber and plunge the world into another dark age. He must venture into dangerous lands to gather magics of light and dark. Only then can he coax the silver moonlight to fall upon the Great Old One and lull it back into a deep sleep.
