Madou Monogatari A: Doki-doki Vacation is a quirky RPG where you follow Arle as she battles a construction crew trying to destroy her forest. Set during a summer break, the story has you exploring trees, caves, and villages while battling anthropomorphic villains. Turn-based combat blends basic RPG mechanics with silly dialogue and pixelated animations. Collect items and upgrade gear to survive waves of skeletal workers and insect-like henchmen. The game moves at a laid-back pace with occasional bursts of chaotic action. The game stands out for its absurd humor and charming 16-bit visuals. Arle’s snarky personality and the villainous crew’s over-the-top antics keep the tone light. Despite the Game Gear’s technical limits, the world feels packed with tiny details and hidden secrets. Community fans praise its nostalgic charm and replayable side quests. Short but satisfying, it’s a throwback to early RPGs that prioritized character over complexity.
Arle, during her summer vacation, is visiting her grandmother and exploring the forest surrounding her house. Arle soon catches wind of a construction company headed by Satan attempting to raze the forest to make room for a recreational area. In order to protect the forest, Arle sets off to take on Satan's crew. Skeleton-T, Sasori Man, and Suketoudara make a cameo in the intro as some of Satan's construction staff, chasing Arle into the forest and beginning the game.
