Shoot bugs falling from a flying ship before they multiply. You control a cannon that fires at larvae and grubs appearing onscreen. Each missed target weaves a cocoon and after seven hatch they become aggressive moths called Ultramoths. These creatures attack your position forcing you to clear the screen of all bugs to earn higher ranks. Play alone or take turns with another player in arcade cabinets. Magical Spot stands out for its simple but tense gameplay. The risk of missed shots leading to swarms adds pressure that few 80s shooters match. While not widely known outside Japan its tight mechanics and escalating challenges have earned it a small but dedicated following. Released in 1980 it predates many modern shooter tropes making its design feel both oldschool and surprisingly fresh.
