Makaimura for WonderSwan is a side-scrolling platformer built for speed and repetition. You play as Arthur swinging through levels filled with golems, goblins, and traps. Each stage forces you to memorize layouts while managing a limited health pool and coin-based weapon upgrades. The game reuses enemies and settings from earlier Ghosts 'n Goblins entries but adds branching paths in levels 2 through 5 and a few mechanical quirks. One level requires rotating the handheld device sideways as Arthur descends a vertical shaft on a rope. The final boss fight drops the need to replay levels for a key weapon, a small but welcome shift from the series formula. The standout moment is the 90-degree rotation level which feels like an early experiment in motion-based gameplay. With only 35 hours of average playtime reported by retro players, it remains a lean but punishing challenge. Hardcore platformer fans appreciate the precision and risk-reward loops, though the WonderSwan’s small screen amplifies the difficulty. A forgotten relic of late 90s handheld gaming.
