About

Manhole is an arcade challenge where you guide Yoshi to keep city sidewalks safe. As pedestrians like Toad and Donkey Kong Jr. stroll across a grid of manhole covers, your job is to prevent them from falling through. Yoshi uses his head to hold up top covers and his tongue for lower ones, timing jumps to keep them from collapsing underfoot. Each successful catch adds points, but stepping on a cover triggers a drop that could send the next walker tumbling. At set scores, a Chubby character pops up to toss a heart, letting you erase a mistake if Yoshi catches it mid-air. The game stands out for its tight rhythm and escalating tension. The updated version increases the difficulty by letting four covers stay open at once, raising the stakes with every step. Music shifts pace as the action speeds up, syncing the soundtrack to your growing frenzy. Despite its short release window in 1997, Manhole has gained a cult following for its clever use of Yoshi’s abilities and addictive high-score chasing. It remains a sharp, under-the-radar test of reflexes.
