You wake in Kestlebrook, a fog-shrouded valley where the past clings to the present like moss on stone. Someone named Eric sent you a letter, but the town’s warped sense of time makes it hard to trust what’s real. You wander crumbling buildings, scribble notes in a journal that fills with cryptic symbols, and chase flickering lights that vanish before you can catch them. The environment breathes unease, doors lead to impossible places, and the air hums with whispers that feel just out of earshot. Marginalia leans into slow-burn tension over jump scares, using sparse dialogue and distorted landscapes to unsettle players. Its 2017 release on PC platforms drew mixed reviews, with some praising its eerie atmosphere and others frustrated by its abstract direction. What it lacks in clarity, it makes up for in mood: a ghostly meditation on memory and decay. The game’s minimalistic design and looping puzzles create a disorienting rhythm that lingers longer than most horror titles. Short, but deliberate.
