Mario Teaches Typing is a quirky educational game where you help Mario and Luigi rebuild a magical typewriter by improving your keyboard skills. Each lesson tasks you with typing lines of text to collect pieces of the broken device, progressing through increasingly tricky challenges. The game mixes basic typing exercises with simple platforming sections, where precise key presses let you navigate obstacles and avoid enemies. All music is pulled directly from Super Mario World, adding a familiar soundtrack to the learning process. Released in 1992, this rare licensed Mario title stands out as one of the first attempts to merge Nintendo’s characters with productivity software. While not a traditional game, its charming approach and pixel-perfect Mario animations made it a nostalgic hit for early PC users. The DOS and Mac versions emphasized simplicity, making it accessible for kids and newcomers. Though typing tutors have evolved, the game remains a cult favorite for its creative use of a beloved IP in an unexpected context.
Mario and Luigi were walking by Bowser's Castle one day when they come across the Magical Typewriter floating in the air. Curious, Mario attempts to type on it. However, he proves to be a terrible typist. Before Mario can go on any further, the Magical Typewriter explodes. In place of the typewriter is a scroll, which is also floating in the air. Mario takes the typewriter and sees a picture of three pieces of the Magical Typewriter. Mario and Luigi decide to recover all of the pieces and improve Mario's typing skills.
